Battle: Open for Rebel, Empire, and Neutral. Rebels Vs Empire Location: Wolport, Ord Mantell Outcome: Rebel Retreat. Planetary Desruction Ordered.
It was quiet, and nothing seemed to be going on in the city. People walked around with their everyday lives, and speeder cars zoomed to and fro buildings. The planet's sun was high in the sky, and there was no worry about anything. For a long time the planet was considerd unimportant in the Galactic Civil War, and it was. Untill now.
A shadow began to fade in, and people looked up in horror to see a huge star destroyer. It was close enough you could hear its engines roar and the sound of Tie Bombers filled the air. A squadren of Tie bombers flew fast over the city, blue orbs dropped out of them every few seconds.
Explosions rocked the city and people began screaming and running for their lives. Buildings began to fall, and choking smoke filled the air. As soon as it began, the bombing was halted, and the Ties droned back into the bellt of the star destroyer.
But right when the people who survived the bombing began to exhale and relax, a thumping jolted the ground. "Walkers!" Someone yelled, and people began fleeing one way, away from the horizon. And on that horizon were the shapes of 7 AT-ATs. The fall of wolport was in full swing. However, the rebel base was untouched, still undiscovered. Darth Vader had ordered the city destroyed to flush out the rebels.
Ties began filling the sky, casting faint shadows all over. AT-PTs walked and shot down random civilians in the rubble. Hundreds of white clad troops poured into the streets, taking no prisoners. Some people fought back with puny pistols, some had rifles, but noone was any match for the incomprehensible number of stormtroopers.
On the star destoryer, Imperium, officers stood by the viewports, chuckling over the needless death. "This will be an example to the galaxy that the Empire will always find you." The other officer mentioned. "Yes, they may be hiding, but not for long. You know what happened with hoth, have the fleet in orbit soon." "understood." "Vader will be pleased."

The Rebels, in their underground bunkers just on the outskirts of the city of Wolport, bordering the wastelands, watched in horror as the Empire began to make its assault on the planet and the city.
"How far is the evacuation coming?" said the Commander in charge of communcations to the nearest General he could find.
"We're almost ready for a full-out assault to cover our transports. We're going to need the cannons again." The older man shook his head. It was like a repeat of Hoth. Except this time they weren't expecting it.
"We have people stationed in the City. Do we engage?"
They both looked at the screens. There were too many Imperial troops already for it to be even near a fair fight.
"We can't just abandon those people. They're doing this to get to us," the woman at the communications post said quietly.
"And by leaving as fast as we can, we'll be saving more lives," the General said firmly. "I hate retreating, but you know how it goes. Live to fight another day."
"Battlestations," called out the woman's voice on the intercom. "Ships launch in five minutes. Rendezvous coordinates--"
A particularly loud explosion nearby rocked the bunker. "That was too close," said a pilot, running nearby. Some rubble filtered down from the stone ceiling. "The AT-AT's are probably going to be here any minute."
"We have no choice," the General said. "We can't fight a straight on battle."
"We have to try," the Commander muttered. "Or we won't last long enough to make our escape."
A sigh. "Very well. Organize the ground troops and get the cannons aboveground. The first wave of transport ships will be leaving the planet in five minutes. Protect our ion cannon."

All of the sudden, and explosion rocked the east hall of the base. A raspy, stormtrooper voice called out. " We found them! Alert Vader!" The trooper yelled, and Troopers filled in by the dozens. To their surprise, there weren't that many troops. "Their retreating already!" A trooper yelled, and the onslaught began. "We'll have AT-ATs on location in five minutes. "
"Good" A trooper walked in. He had an oranged pauldren on his shoulder. "We will wait here, defend this point untill we have Air and Heavy Ground support."
"Rebels, 4 O'Clock- arggggggh" A troop got shot and fell to the ground.
"Set blasters to instant kill, follow me, and take no prisonors." A troop yelled, and about 6 troops ran down the hall.

A loud alarm blared up through the bunkers. The Rebels at the communications station looked up in fear. "We've been breached. Abandon all posts! Evacuate! Repeat, evacuate!" Orders and warnings were blasted across all the Alliance frequencies. It was chaos in the underground warren. Troops immediately ran towards the breached area, while about half of them managed to get aboveground to man the ion cannon to protect the leaving transports. They had five 1.4 FD P-Tower laser cannons appearing at the top of the base to protect it from AT-AT walkers, as well as three DF.9 anti-infantry batteries positioned around the underground hangar for the ships, that were not visible before the attack, the camouflage pulled off of them. And leave they did. A large hole opened up in the wasteland as three transport ships and two X-wing protectors erupted out of the ground. The ion cannon shot into space to clear a path for them to get past whatever blockade happened to be in their way so they could get to hyperspace and make it to the rendezvous point. "We need to stand our ground at the breach!" A Commander rallied the ground troops still within the base. "Give the ships time to get out of here!" They split into teams and a seven-man team happened upon the Stormtrooper group of about six, and immediately the hallway erupted in blaster beams.

"Hurry! Grenade them no- Ahhh" A stormtrooper yelled, then got hit by a laser bolt. "Retreat to the entrance, call for reinforcements!" The troopers began to run, 3 of them running backwards to cover for the others. 2 toopers were down. 1 or 3 rebels were down as well.
"Go go go!" An Imp Officers yelled, and 30 troopers flooded into the hall, severly overwhelming the rebels.
Meanwhile, above ground, things were now in order. Lines of civilians were being loaded into prison shuttles. Intercoms were set up around the ghost city. In one area, everything was destroted, just bodies and rubble remained. A booming voice began to echo all over. "Attention, citizens of Wolport. You are now under Imperial control. Surrender immediatly, as we will take no prisoners otherwise. The rebellion that has staked claim to this city is to blame for your losses. If you are willing to help with the eratication and restorment of peace in this city, alert the closest officer. That is all." The recording played over every few minutes.

Everything was turning to mush in minutes, the Rebels at the com center still just barely holding their ground, hearing blaster bolts and seeing bits of roof and rock crumbling down with the battle.
"Look what's happened to the City," one said, thinly veiled horror in his voice.
"They're getting faster and faster at that sort of thing," another muttered.
"Get to your transports! We managed to get half of them up in space already! We can't hold the Ion cannon much longer," the Commander yelled.
"We can't just abandon the city, look what happened!" Everyone ducked then as an explosion went of somewhere near.
"It just proves the fact that we're doing the right thing in fighting against the Empire," said the Commander austerely. "So this kind of thing won't happen again. Now get to your transports, we're evacuating everyone."
The Rebels above ground manning the cannons had to split up to protect the remainder underground, as the influx of Stormtroopers came quickly.

As the chaos continued, 5 star destroyers hurled out of lightspeed in Ord Mantall's orbit. In the bridge, an elite stormtrooper stood next to a hologram. "Yes, my lord. We will prepare to clear the planet for the Death Star immediatly." The hologram disappeared. "d**n..." The trooper said, as an officer walked up to the screen showing the attack. "I thought NEWS crews weren't allowed in there..." The trooper, TK-834 said. The officer, who's nametag read Bish Conard in galactic basic, simply laughed. "If you ask me it doesn't matter. We control the galaxy- We control the media. Anyone who tries to rise against us will end up like the rebellion." "
"Well, I think-" TK-834 was caught off guard by an explosion near the bridge. Alarms began to go off. " A voice came on the intercom. "Attention, attention, Rebellion fleet in area. Ready battle stations. Scramble all fighters. I repeat, rebel fleet has come out of lightspeed." TK wasn't very surprised. "Should of known they'd send for help..." "Ready my shuttle." TK then walked off the the docking bay, ignoring the booming explosions outside the viewports.

The meager few Rebels left at their stations let out a cheer when they got their Fleet on screen.
"We might still have a chance at this," the woman at her post grinned, despite all that had happened. Something exploded nearby and they began to look serious once again.
"We're almost completely evacuated. Get to your transports, now!" The Commander ordered, and the rest of the group finally gave up their posts and were escorted out by several ground troopers.
"Wait--wait, Commander, I've got something else. An Imperial signal..." the color drained out of the woman's face. "They're bringing in the Death Star."
"The people!" Someone next to her said. "They're not gonna..."
"What do we do?" Another asked, still halfway in his chair.
"We can't take 'em all with us," the Commander said quietly. Another explosion boomed and it reminded them that they had little time left.
"We can try to take as many as we can," the woman said abruptly, and typed in something at her station. "I'm hijacking the planetary com system now--they should be warned of the Death Star if anyone's listening in."
"Maybe we can go out with land speeders and pick some up," another man suggested.
The Commander nodded and they got the rest of the communications group out from their bunker and into the chaos that was the world above. People were running back and forth across the hangar nearby, loading the rest of their equipment and personel into the last couple of transports.

In the rebel base... A trooper walked ahead of the group. "Well, we lost our chances of adding a kill to our belts..." One disapointed trooper said. "How much longer till the death star gets here?" "Well, I'd say an hour." "Why are we even in here anymore?" "Hey!" A trooper felt the shape of a door keypad in the shadow. "Hmm..." The trooper pressed at the keypad, and suddenly the door opened. "What the... Oh no..." The lone trooper stood there looking at the group of rebels. His group had already been given the order to leave no matter what. "d**n..." the trooper said out loud looking behind him. "Well..." He said. "I... Surrender?" He said, dropping his blaster and putting his hands on his head.

The Rebel troops all held their blasters up at the lone Stormtrooper who surrendered immediately.
"Get him out of here," the commander of the group motioned the other guys to do so. "And see if there's anymore in this hallway. Go! Hurry!"
The Rebel troops filed out ahead of them while the others walked their only prisoner back out.
Meanwhile, several land speeders had returned with the few citizens they could still find. The Empire had rounded mostly everyone up already. The Rebel officers weren't really sure it was a good idea to take these sorts of people onboard, considering the reputation Ord Mantell had, but it would be inhumane to leave them to die at the hands of the Death Star. It turns out that many of them were more than a little mad at the Alliance, blaming them for the Empire's interference.
"We had no Imperial entanglements at all until you guys showed up! They left us alone!"

Finally, the unmistakable shape appeard in the sky. No imperials were left. Suddenly the radio in the control room picked up a signal. "Fire in 5 minutes." A female voice said.
(crap post, but we might as well finish this one up.)

"The Death Star is in range! Everyone, evacuate!" Came the automated repeated message from the com system. Not that there was anyone still left to listen to it. The transports had gotten away under the cover fire of the Rebel fleet and the Ion cannon on the surface below. Unfortunately a lot of their artillery had to be abandoned due to time constraints.
The last two X-wing fighters and transport ship were just lifting off from the planet's surface. As soon as they were to get into hyperspace, the Rebel fleet would move off and join them.
It wasn't like they were in any shape to battle the Death Star. Again.

Post by Darth Vader on May 22, 2007 14:45:06 GMT -5
Darth Vader himself was on that station. He was looking out into space, a smile on the torn face beneath his mask. Oh, how he would have loved to have been there for the full fight. Or at least, that's what he told himself. In his heart, he knew that he still wasn't ready for fully drawn out confrentations with the Rebels, especially not so soon after his son had blown his faith from a solid banner to oh so many shredded ribbons. 'What have you done to me?' Vader asked himself for the millionth time after that encounter.
He sighed heavily as he viewed the planet through the electronic view screen of his mask. It had been so long since he had been able to take in a planet with his own eyes. He'd never been to this particular planet before, though he knew it had served as a supply base during the Clone Wars, and he had often been saved by supplies coming from that base. He was stricken with a wave of grief as he thought of how he was repaying the planet for its service, but only for a moment. 'The rebels are here,' he reminded himself. 'In order to restore order to the galaxy, this must be done.'
He knew the battle of Hoth's mistakes, and he was surprised that nothing had been done about it. "Admiral," he called, causing the officer to snap to attention in a very quick fashion. "Scramble all squadrons immediately. The Rebels are using an Ion Cannon that will be effective against star destroyers, but not against an entire squadron of fighters. We will intercept and destroy their transports ship-to-ship." He had been taught the value of a single-man fighter, especially one who was strong in the Force, during the battle aboard the first Death Star. But he still wasn't finished. "Also have your scanners fully ready. I intend to follow the rebels through hyperspace by following their last known tragectory."
"But my lord, If I may say, the battle is already ours. We have the planet in our sights, and it will be destroyed."
"Admiral," Darth Vader said, "Your lack of foresight dissapoints me. The rebels will only rise up again on some other planet after this one is destroyed. By following them, we can crush them here and now once and for all."
"The Death Star is ready to fire," the programmed voice called over the intercom, drawing a smile from the Dark Lord of the Sith.
"Now, Admiral, wipe this planet from the face of the galaxy," he commanded. As if on cue, the cannon produced several immense green beams, converging on a center point and chargin in a large, green orb there. The orb erupted, spewing fourth in a single great blast toward the planet of Ord Mantell. Debris flew about as the destructive weapon hit it, blasting the entire planet from view.
The destruction of the planet was not what was on Vader's mind at that moment. It was the sudden twang of grief and lack of satisfaction that accompanied it. 'Why do I regret?' he asked himself, but already he knew full well what the answer was already.
"My lord," the Admiral tentatively said, "We've lost the coordinates. The Rebels have escaped u-" He never got to finish. Invisible fingers wrapped around his neck, squeezing gently at first, then more roughly as the precious air that fuled his lungs was denied to him. Vader was walking off of the bridge then, heading for his Victory-class Star Destroyer Firewind, which was taking the place of the Executor until it could be rebuilt. Before he had ever arrived at his ship, the admiral was dead. It seemed a series of promotions was in order...
((Mmk, that should wrap things up. If I've gone too fast or done anything stupid, please feel free to PM me with a slap-in-face kind of message ^_^'))
