Name: Jagged Ofnir
Nickname / Callsign: Talisman
Age: 25
Race: Human
Homeworld: Alderaan
Rank: Lieutenant
Weapons: A single DL-44 blaster and a small holdout blaster that he keeps hidden. While he has not trained with his grandfather’s lightsaber, Jag still keeps the device hidden on his person. After all, it could come in handy one day.
Personality: Jag is a rather outspoken individual, who always seems to be talking about one thing or another. That being said, he has a very sarcastic nature and always seems to be cracking a joke at someone else’s expense. When the squadron morale is down, Talisman often tries to find ways to boost it. However, most of those ways are through simple pranks. In the cockpit of a starfighter though, Jag takes on a completely different nature. He is calm and collected at all times, and takes the job rather seriously. After all, there are other people depending on him. Of course, when things go wrong around the hangar, he tends to blame things on Wes.
Background Information: During the Clone Wars, a Jedi by the name of Hunter Ofnir went into hiding, managing to erase all files that connected him to the Jedi order. Bail Organa provided asylum to the Corellian Jedi, and was able to protect him from the Emperor. Hunter was filled with grief when his own son expressed interest in joining the Imperial machine that dominated most of the galaxy and hunted down the Jedi. Still, he did not want any attention attracted to him and so allowed his son to attend the military academy on Caridia. His son was not force sensitive, but Hunter hoped that the Jedi line would carry on through his family. He died several months after his grandson was born, but made sure to leave a few mementos for Jagged, one being his old lightsaber. A handmaiden was able to keep the device hidden from Jag’s father until the young Ofnir grew old enough to hide it himself. However, he was never aware of the true story of his grandfather and so the lightsaber had little influence on his early life.
Jagged was born in the upper classes of Alderaan. The boy carried the brown hair and blue eyes of the old Alderaanian order. His mother was a senator’s aide who unfortunately died giving birth to the young Ofnir. His father was a high ranking Imperial fighter pilot, who always seemed to be away. As a result, various assistants raised Jagged and his older brother. From when he was born, the young Ofnir knew Tycho Celchu, a fellow Alderaanian who also lived in the upper class. For the most part he lived with his friend, the two quickly becoming like brothers. Jag passed through his childhood without a father and mother alike, the older Ofnir always away serving with the Imperial Fleet. Every once and a while the older man returned home, but usually only for Zak’s birthdays. The younger sibling always felt as though he had to prove something and so forced himself to excel at everything. That included sports and academics, his natural genius easily pushing Jagged to the top five of his class. Two years before the young man moved on to college, his brother Zak was accepted into the Caridia Fleet Academy.
It was always a goal of Jag’s, no matter how much he hated his father, to attend one of the highly famed Imperial Academies. At the age of sixteen, the youngster finally made this dream come true. He was accepted into the academy on Prefsbelt IV. Almost three weeks into his stay at the Prefsbelt, Jagged was informed that he had rather significant force sensitivity. This enabled Ofnir to match the mighty Soontir Fel in simulated battles. The rebellion always intrigued the young imperial though, something that would shape his life. Still, it was nothing that he wanted. Instead, he simply enjoyed reading books that were supposed to be censored by the Empire.
After graduating, Jag was posted on the Star Destroyer Avenger with the 41st TIE Interceptor Squadron. Unfortunately, soon after his entrance into the Imperial Fleet, the Death Star destroyed Alderaan. When the Death Star itself was destroyed, Jagged learned that his brother had been one of the casualties. Unlike Tycho who stayed with the Imperials for a while longer, Ofnir immediately defected to the Rebellion. His skill with the TIE enabled Leto to transition to the new rebel fighter that they commonly called the A-Wing. Some even say that Solo developed his famous saying based off Ofnir, though the pilot himself doubts it. "Any pilot who volunteers to fly an A-wing better be brave or crazy. Probably helps to be a little of both." Amid the alliance, the pilot rejoined old friends, and quickly made new ones like Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker. He really only knew the latter because he joined up with Rogue Squadron.
At Hoth, Ofnir was charged with providing cover for one of the escape transports, barely getting through with his life. This is where the young man earned his callsign, from what some considered a lucky escape for everyone around his fighter. Ofnir was able to fly an A-Wing during Endor, and with his force sensitivity quickly packed on the kills. The ace even managed to down a Defender type starfighter, one of his greatest feats. Of course, this battle cost the lives of many people, better men in Jag’s mind.
About a half year after Endor, Talisman was again with the Rogues, but this time they were on the run. The Empire had defeated them at Endor, but the small band of freedom seekers still carried hope that one day the Imperials would fall.
Fighter Designations:
41st TIE Interceptor Squadron (TIE Fighter) – Hunter 7
Rogue Squadron (A-Wing; X-Wing) – Rogue 8; Talisman
Green Squadron (A-Wing) – Talisman
Rogue Squadron (X-Wing) – Rogue 6; Talisman
Writing Sample: The small starfighter jinked in and out of the interceptor’s field of fire without presenting a good shot. The quick maneuvers alone kept the pilot out of harms way for the moment, but it would only be a matter of time before the squint finally achieved a firing solution. “Six, quit screwing around and vape the bandit.” A single smirk passed over Ofnir’s face as he pulled back hard on the throttle and at the same instant sent his fighter into a large corkscrew that drained even more speed this close to a gravitational body. Like usual, the squint misjudged his speed after chasing the A-Wing for so long and shot past the other starfighter. The rotating cannons of Talisman’s fighter were brought to bear on the squint, red lasers lancing out and connecting with the bandit. Its port solar panel sheared off and the fighter fell into the atmosphere.
“Squint’s gone lead.” Jag pulled back on the joystick, sending the nimble starfighter back toward the main engagement. In front of his bird, a small rebel fleet was engaging and Imperial one of equal size. All similarities ended there. The more maneuverable TIEs were falling victim to the shielded X-Wings from Rogue squadron. It was one thing that Jagged always found distasteful with the Empire. No matter how many starfighters were shot down, they still claimed that their TIEs were superior to the Rebel craft. That was far from the point though.
“Squints are good.” An explosion close to Jag’s fighter signaled the end of yet another TIE fighter. “We’re paid to be better.” Talisman smirked at his wingman’s remark before adding a small comment of his own at the end. “So when was the last time you got paid?” The rather grumpy voice of their squadron leader sounded over the communications link before any return response was made. “Ofnir, less talking and more fighting.” A pair of eyeballs were closing in on one of the other X-Wings, prompting Talisman to roll his A-Wing in their direction. “Wilco lead, six is inbound.”
